The United Nations Office for South-South Cooperation (UNOSSC) is responsible for promoting, coordinating and supporting South-South cooperation throughout the United Nations system and around the world. Among its functions, UNOSSC is the Secretary of State to the High Level Committee for South-South Cooperation, the main political decision-making body for South-South cooperation in the United Nations system and as the subsidiary body of the General Assembly. The High-Level Committee is conducting intergovernmental reviews of progress in implementing the Buenos Aires Action Plan, the new directions for South-South cooperation, the final document of the United Nations High Level Conference on South-South Cooperation and the final document of the second United Nations High Level Conference on South-South Cooperation (BAPA-40). UNOSSC organizes the Committee`s biennial meetings and compiles reports that inform the deliberations of these meetings. It assists Member States in the work of defining policies, rules and procedures to improve the implementation of South-South cooperation; monitors progress in implementation; and helps developing country governments strengthen their institutional capacity and procedures for South-South cooperation. It establishes the Secretary-General`s report on the state of South-South cooperation, in consultation with the various United Nations agencies and non-member partners of the United Nations. It also encourages the integration of South-South cooperation into programming processes and establishes inter-institutional instruments such as operational directions; Mobilizes financial resources for South-South cooperation; and implements specific projects and activities. In order to inform, facilitate and expand the implementation of South-South cooperation, UNOSSC organizes the annual High-Level Forum of Directors-General for Development Cooperation and the United Nations South-South Development Organization at the system level. The Expo, which involves development practitioners and representatives from the United Nations system, government, the private sector and civil society, presents successful development solutions, a way to exchange information on the wealth of knowledge and capabilities of the South. UNOSSC also serves as a knowledge hub for south-south and triangular cooperation by hosting the South-South Galaxy and the South-South Global Thinkers platforms.
She produces numerous knowledge and research publications, including her flagship publications «Good Practices on South-South and Triangular Cooperation for Sustainable Development»; «South South in Action Series» and «South Ideas» documents that are particularly relevant to the South and share up-to-date information on UNOSSC`s activities on their websites, knowledge platforms and social media.
